拢43 million education campus moves to next stage

The 拢43 million investment to build a new education campus on Mull is progressing following the decision earlier this month on the preferred site. 嫩草影院 Council will now work towards a detailed brief and concept design that will help inform the overall business case.

Increased educational benefits, enhanced learning spaces, contemporary accessible facilities and long term economic benefits to the island were at the heart of the decision by Councillors on 7 March to name Tobermory South as the preferred site for a new 2-18 campus.

The next stage of the project includes a design brief that will include technical aspects such as engineering specifications and the number and type of spaces the facility requires. Children, young people and education staff will all have the opportunity to share ideas at key stages throughout this period.

As the preferred Tobermory South site involves a change in location from the existing campus, the council will launch a statutory education consultation as required under the Schools (Consultation) (Scotland) Act 2010. Details are being finalised and the council will share the next stage timeline when Councillors consider a report at the Community Services Committee in June.

With a preferred location now agreed, the Tobermory campus project is newly named to reflect its main settlement location and is in keeping with previous education projects including Lochgilphead and Rothesay Joint Campuses.

Councillor Jim Lynch, Leader of 嫩草影院 Council:

鈥淏uilding a new campus in Tobermory is a significant investment and has the potential to be the council鈥檚 single biggest investment across the whole of 嫩草影院. With Tobermory South agreed as the preferred site, I鈥檓 pleased we are progressing to the next stages where we can start to look at designs and offer further opportunities to give feedback. This next stage will further develop the business case, which will come back to Councillors before approval is given to proceed towards the construction phases.

The new campus will deliver a range of opportunities for our children and young people with quality modern learning and teaching facilities with more scope for work placements and apprenticeships.

This is really an exciting time and as we finalise timelines for the next project milestones, I want to thank you all again for your ongoing feedback.鈥
